"Aren't you a little to old to watch TV-series about vampires!?"
This outrageous(in my opinion LOL) comment was directed at my 24 year sister when she was watching an episode of the HBO series True Blood. The one that made that remark was our mother dearest. I honestly didn't know there was an upper age limit for liking books, TV-series and/or movies about vampires(or other sups for that sake!).
I enjoy reading(and watching) several different genres but my favorites are in the paranormal, supernatural and fantasy genres. I'm certainly not going to stop enjoying these genres just because I've reached a certain age! I feel that this is all about preferences, some love drama, others romance, others again likes the paranormal genre(some of us enjoy reading all kinds of genres). It's a perfectly honest matter to say that one doesn't care for a specific genre, but to old? No way, and yes I was a bit offended by that remark. I love these genres because in my opinion this is great fiction that allows me to escape from reality. There are so many bad things happening in this world and I'm one of those who's not all that keen on reading about stuff that actually very well might happen to someone in real life(eventhough I occasionally read books like that as well).
So what do you think am I to old for vampires and other fictional paranormal beings? Are you?
I'll never be to old for any kind of books, be it Twilight or Harry Potter, John Grisham or Jane Austen :D
ReplyDeleteYou can never be too old for this stuff! I'll read about vamps and other supernatural things until I'm 90!
ReplyDeleteYou're never too old for anything. Read/watch what you love! =D
ReplyDeleteYou are *never* too old! I pass my YA reads on to my mother all the time, and she's in her fifties.
ReplyDeleteToo old for Tb *coughs* with all that sex I think she is the right age for that show.
ReplyDeleteNo way! You can never be too old for anything as long as you still enjoy it. I still love reading authors like Beatrix Potter and Hans Christian Andersen & they write fairy tales! :p
ReplyDeleteIf you ask me, you're never too old to like vampires; or anything you still enjoy. If not, then I should tell my mom, and my aunt, and my grandma....
ReplyDeleteNo way are any of us too old to read about vampires. I just wish these books had been around when I was younger. I still read books from my children, so am I too old for those too. Reading should be ageless.
ReplyDeleteYou are never too old! I plan to be a vampire, werewolf, supernatural freak for the rest of my life.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before, I always feel a little odd when I have to do the "walk of shame" to the teen/YA section of the bookstore to find the book I want. Then I think about it, why should I let someone make me feel ashamed for reading anything? As far as the TV shows go...True Blood is graphic! AND filled with sex! If 24 is too old....then what is their target audience supposed to be?
ReplyDeleteI say read and watch what makes you happy. I know people in their 40's who watch cartoons all the time. Some people are into anime, some people supernatural, some people romance, some people sci fi.
Long, rambling story short, no, you and your sister are not too old to be into vampires!
No way! You are never too old! I mean - aren't vampires OLD? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my God TRUE BLOOD. *hyperventilates* There's no age limit for good writing or good film/TV. I watched all of True Blood Season One in a week, and have been talking to my boyfriend, who's not an avid reader and thinks Twilight is a lot of crock. Along with one of his good friends, my BF is now convinced that True Blood might be enjoyable for him as well. The wonderful thing about vampires and fantasy is that they're allegories for life without having to deal with all the complicated rules of humanity. We learn and connect to these paranormal characters and world without having it force-fed to us. :)
ReplyDeleteOh please, my over fifty, MALE, computer nerd coworker admitted a fondness for TrueBlood. If he can watch it, I think anyone gets a pass. :P
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that sometimes I do feel like I'm a bit too old to read Twilight and watch vampire flicks. Okay...let me revise that, I feel like I'm too old to get into teen romances. But I'm not too embarrassed to walk my butt over to the YA section, buy a book, and not make any excuses.
ReplyDeleteYou can NEVER be too old or young for vampires!
ReplyDeleteI really don't think my mother has seen much of True Blood, because if she had she definitely wouldn't thought my sister was to old LOL(not that she minds sex on TV but if we were thirteen I don't think True Blood would be accepted for us to see).
ReplyDeleteThere is NO AGE LIMIT to like anything on this planet. Give me Archies comics and i will still sit and laugh through it :D **ok! dnt look at me LIKE that ;)**
