Since almost all of my reviews are of young adult novels I feel that I have some responsibility to warn the readers when the novel I review below is unsuitable for younger readers.
My summary:
Kenan, an incubus, finds an angel for sale on a marketplace in Hellsgate and he decides he wants to seduce her. He works to win the angel, Jahael's trust and discovers her reason for being down in Hellsgate in the first place. Jahel is looking for a soul she lost while guarding it, Kenan decides to help her and while on their mission the angel and the incubus fall head over heels.

My thoughts:
This book came very close to a "did not finish" for me. It was just impossible to connect with the characters and I couldn't manage to feel anything for them. I missed action and passion.
The story sometimes felt like a retelling of Snow White, it certainly had some of the known elements from that story, but sadly it felt like a lifeless retelling. The plot idea in itself was good, but could have been developed further. There are some elements of the apocalypse in there, that is just a sidetrack from Kenan and Jahel's mission, if this is a stand alone novel I don't quite get why that was in the book at all.
On a positive note the author writes in a way that makes the story an easy read. Perhaps I'm just picky but sadly that wasn't enough for me.

I agree that the cover is very sensual. Hopefully your next read will be better.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the idea of the succumbs and the angel for sale in the market place deal. I bet if it wasn't a romance type book that idea could have been fleshed out more. Thanks for the awesome review!
ReplyDeleteToo bad, the premise sounds so good, but everyone can't enjoy everything. nice honest review
