Book review: Tiger's Curse (The Tiger Saga #1) by Colleen Houck

My summary:
Kelsey Hayes is looking for a summer job and ends up at a circus selling tickets, souvenirs and helping out with the white tiger. Kelsey quickly bonds with the dangerous animal and when she one day hears the tiger, Ren, is going to be sold and shipped off to India Kelsey is a bit sad. Still she wants this beautiful creature to be free.

The buyer wants Kelsey to come along and escort Ren to India. Soon Kelsey is in the middle of an adventure she never could have dreamed of, let alone imagined herself being the most important character in it. Kelsey is a part of a 300 year old Indian prophecy; a spell must be broken.

My thoughts:
Hi guys! Have you missed me? I have been a few hours in India and I just got back. Well, I haven't really been to India but I wish I'd been there. Author Colleen Houck paints a vivid picture of India (at least for a person who haven't been there - I cannot vouch for how accurate the details are, but it does feel real), you can almost believe that you are out in the jungle with the main characters, taste the spicy food and the juice of a ripe Mango

Colleen Houck has written a fantasy love story, which in my opinion stands out from the crowd. Tiger's Curse is the story of two Indian princes who was cursed over 300 years ago, they now live life as tigers (well mostly as tigers anyway). There is some nice action scenes in this book, perfect for an Indiana Jones movie with royal tigers in it.

Tigers are some of my favorite animals and in Tiger's Curse and of course I fell in love with Ren from the very beginning. There is also a black tiger, Kishan, he deserves to be mentioned as well. Kishan is just the kind of flirtatious and confident type that I like. I actually had to read up on my tiger knowledge because I knew little to nothing about black tigers. It was interesting to see that there have been reported sights of black tigers, but not very often and quite a few of the sights have been dismissed as illusions.

A few pet peeves of mine:
  • Kelsey, our heroin, states time and time again how handsome her crush is(a bit like Bella in Twilight)
  • Kelsey putting herself down during the last 100 pages or so - very annoying.
  • A few bits of unnecessary information which I wonder why is in the novel at all.
These are minor flaws, but as a whole this was a pleasant reading experience. I'm looking forward to discover more about the curse and to get to know Kelsey, Ren and Kishan even better.

The cover:
I fell in love the moment I laid eyes on this beautiful white tiger.

  7. I didn't realize this was set in India. I definitely want to read it now. I've never read a YA book set there.

  8. I don't like when characters keep butting themselves down. I want to give them a hug and tell them to have better self-esteem.

I haven't received your email about winning a contest. You can try my email bell198(at)aol(dot)com. Something seems to be wrong with my email and my blogger so I can't even comment under my account. Sorry
