Is it possible to fall in love after death?
Amelia is dead and she is having nightmares while she is awake. Her nightmares evolves around her death; drowning in the river. Amelia has no other memories of her past life. One day when Amelia relives the nightmare of her death another person is drowning in the river. Joshua had a car accident and drove off the High Bridge. Amelia cannot help the boy in any way, she is after all a ghost, but somehow she manages to get Joshua to save himself from drowning. A strange bond forms between the two, but they have powerful enemies but in the afterlife and in the real world.
My thoughts:
Here I go again starting a review in just the same way as quite a few other reviews I've written so far this year.. Yet again I managed to get disappointed, in Hereafter Amelia and Joshua fall instantly in love. I need an exceptionally good story to believe in this kind of love at first sight. It doesn't feel quite right to me. If I were to meet a handsome boy who just happened to be a ghost my initial reaction would be fear not love.
Apart from my usual complaint about the love story I very much enjoyed Amelia as a ghost. She wasn't your ordinary haunting ghost looking for revenge over her murderer. Amelia was lost, she was confused. Herafter was an original take on a ghosts' story. There was a ghost bad guy in this story as well, Eli, he was a scary kind of guy but I felt his role could have been more involved in the story from the get go.
I would like to see what kind of adventure author Tara Hudson takes Amelia and Joshua on next. I would also love to know more about Amelia's family; I felt there was a mystery to be solved there.

This book can be purchased from a number of local retailers and on-line book stores such as Amazon or The Book Depository (I'm not an affiliate of either). The latter store does by the way have free shipping to about 100 countries.

You know I wasn't upset by the instant love in this book. Maybe because it wasn't a look from across a crowded room kind of thing. The connection seemed real to me. I get what your saying though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to my review and thanks for your thoughts.

You're welcome :) Sometimes I believe in these kind of relationship but rarely(and I need something more original now I guess).
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I mostly feel like reading the end because how can these two be happy?
ReplyDeleteBlodeuedd: Excellent question! I don't think I could have been in a relationship with a ghost myself LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I really enjoyed this. Usually I have issues with instant love, but sometimes it manages to suck me in. Thankfully it did with this. But I do prefer when books really build a solid foundation for potential relationships though.
ReplyDeleteI loved journeying with Amelia as a ghost too and I can't wait to see what Tara has in store next!
Good review! :) Maybee I should read this book. I relly like your blog design btw.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much had the same reaction as you did! I wanted to love it, but the instant love between Amelia and Joshua kind of put me off!

Thank you, stylethief!
ReplyDeleteBrodie:Sometimes I have no problems with insta love but now I feel that it is just used way too often. I need some real magic writing to believe in it lol
Amber Elise: It's a shame that it should drag the whole story down..
