Book shopping can cure mood swings - graphic novels

I was recently in a bit of a bad mood and decided that shopping some books might make happy girl.

The theme for my shopping basket was, obviously as you can see from the picture below, graphic novels. A world I am none too familiar with. I was thinking that I would love to add more titles, not for buying right now, on my ever growing wishlist.

I love lots of things but superheroes, things that makes me laugh and strong female heroines(like in e.g. Castle Waiting, vol. 1 by Linda Medley and Giants Beware! by Jorge Aguirre, Rafael Rosado). What I do not like is the stuff with very graphic violence like in say Sandman. I have only read Vol. 1 Preludes and Nocturnes.

Can you recommend me some good graphic novels that might or might not fit the bill?

  1. Saga and Amulet are supposed to be great, although I have yet to read them. Graphic novel adaptions of novels are always fun, they have started to even adapt classics like Le Mis and The Scarlet Letter. I'm more familiar with manga though, have you tried that?

    1. I just finished Saga yesterday and I loved it! Only thing about it that was annoying is that I need to hide it away from my kids, most definitely not a comic suitable for the younger crowd(like mine 4 & 9 YRS) The oldest one thought the cover looked super cool, understandably so.

I also read Zita the Spacegirl yesterday and it is a must read for almost all ages. I do love the stories about Zita, this was the third one :) I highly recommend it.

    1. Now I can say: me too :D I forced my sister to borrow Rat Queens as soon as I finished it, I think she will enjoy it as well. If you haven't read the Zita stories I recommend them to, so many wonderful creatures, great adventures and unforgettable friendships are forged.

    1. You really should, Elin. They come in all different genres just like traditional novels :)
