Youth Media Awards and the Printz goes to...

Yesterday at the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting the winners and honors of the Youth Media Awards were announced. There are several awards for the top books written for children and young adults being awarded at this event and one of them is the Michael L. Printz Award that "exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature". It was first awarded in 2000 and is named after a high school librarian from Topeka that worked hard to ensure his students had access to good literature and encouraged writers to focus on young adult readers (read more about the award here). Previous winners are among others John Green, Libba Bray and Melina Marchetta. The blog Someday My Printz will Come have been speculating about the books they found likely to be considered for the award along with their readers. Take a look to see if they were right, because here comes the winner and the honors.

The Winner:
In Darkness written by Nick Lake

2013 Honor(s):

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

Dodger by Terry Pratchett

The White Bicycle by Beverley Brenna

Have you read any of these? I have just started listening to Code Name Verity and I know this was one of Mari's absolute favourites last year (there's a link to her review). I am definitely checking out In Darkness very soon as it sounds very good and interesting.

What's on your desk Wednesday? + Award!

I've been tagged by the wonderful Sassy Brit from Alternative-Reads.com in her What's on your desk Wednesday meme! I don't actually have a lot of things on my desk because I really don't have a desk right now(well I do but it is placed so that I almost bump my head in the sealing if I try to sit down there, feels like it anyway LOL). We are redecorating in our basement so hopefully we'll make a small office there when we're finished with that. Meanwhile I just use the kitchentable, that is when we don't eat there, as a desk. Here's what's on my desk(I know the picture is of a losy quality but the cellphone was all I had ATM):

I don't have a lot of stuff there really, or maybe that's because when the picture was taken I've just tidyed the table before dinner ;) The books on the picture is The Woman in the cage(NO. title Kvinnen i buret - reading it for a blog tour) by the Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, Moon Called by Patricia Briggs and Knife by R.J. Anderson.

I've also been so lucky that I've received this great award from Sassy Brit @ Alternative-Reads.com Thank you so much! :

I'm overwhelmed - in a good way!

I've just received two new blog awards, four in total this week, I don't now how to express how grateful I feel for receiving these awards. It truly means a lot to me. When I started blogging in English I would never have imaged that so many people would drop by my blog. I'm amazed and grateful for that! I was actually a bit worried that my grammar skills and English writing skills weren't good enough. That being said I wouldn't mind if the readers would leave a comment if they see any mistakes on my blog(it's easier for me to learn from my mistakes that way ;)).

The awards:
Book Bird Dog awarded me with this extremely cute and heartwarming The Heartfelt blogger award! This most be one of the most touching awards out there, thank you so much for thinking of me, Book Bird Dog! I really appreciate it!

This award is created by Diane @ The Book Resort, and here's the description and rules for this gorgeous award:

Do you reach for a cup of cocoa or tea when you’re relaxing, seeking comfort, sharing a plate of cookies with family & friends?

You know that feeling you get when you drink a yummy cup of cocoa, tea ~ or a hot toddy?

That is what the Heartfelt award is all about feeling warm inside : ].

I wanted to create something to express that toasty feeling.

The Rules:

1) Put the logo on your blog/post.
2) Nominate up to 9 blogs which make you feel comfy or warm inside.
3) Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
4) Let them know that they have been nominated by commenting on their blog.
5) Remember to link to the person from whom you received your award.
I would like to send this award to:

Suzanne @ Chick with Books
lifeafterjane @ Life after Jane
