Book review: The Cellar by A.J. Whitten

My summary:
Sisters Meredith and Heather are both struggling to cope with their fathers death, but the difference is that Heather blames herself for his death. One day a new guy moves in along with his mother nextdoor, his name is Adrien St. Germain. Adrien is a handsome guy and he's after Heather, but Meredith sees something that creeps her out and she believes there is something terrible wrong about Adrien. Heather won't listen to Meredith's advice, why should she listen to such nonsense. Meredith must be jealous because Heather is finally starting to feel some happiness in her life again.

My thoughts:
The Cellar was my second zombie novel ever and this was also a zombie romance, the zombie is Romeo and the human is Juliet. It was an interesting twist to Hamlet infamous couple.

There were some creepy descriptions as to what the zombies did to their victims(yes, of course they do creepy things, they're ZOMBIES). I couldn't stand Adrien, what a creepy love interest, I found myself in want of screaming at Heather why don't you just listen to your sister and get away from that guy?! But I guess this would be a terrible short story if she had actually heeded Meredith advice LOL. That being said I ended up kind of feeling for this guy in some twisted way.

This isn't just a eerie love story it is also the story of a broken family and how each of the family members cope with the grief of losing a loved one. The mother is a perfect example, she is distancing herself from the grief and her two daughters with shopping. It also shows us how easy it can be to take advantage of someone in grieving, they can so easily be led astray with false promises.

The cover:
Creeping me out, I hate cellars.

My rating of this book:
4 stars out of 5
