Book Review: Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott

Summary:
It's been seventy-five days. Amy's sick of her parents suddenly taking an interest in her. And she's really sick of people asking her about Julia. Julia's gone, and Amy doesn't want to talk about it. No one knew Julia like she did. No one gets what life is without her. No one understands what it's like to know that it's all your fault.

Amy's shrink thinks she should keep a journal but instead, Amy starts writing letters to Julia. And as she writes letter after letter, she begins to realize that the past holds its own secrets - and that the present deserves a chance.

My thoughts:
Love You Hate You Miss You is a little outside of my normal genre, but after reading Living Dead Girl I completely fell in love with Scott's writing. The way she makes the reader understand Amy's troubles and relate to her feelings is amazing, and even if you've never had to live through anything like what Amy is dealing with, you get it. Amy is struggling with so much grief and guilt, combined with the awkwardness of high school without her best friend, being around her crazy-in-love parents, and the beginning romance with a completely crush-worthy guy, and the way she deals with all of it is so perfectly, realistically teenager

LYHYMY is not the most action-packed of novels, but it's all about how Amy slowly learns to live again, and both the story and the characters are so beautifully described that I don't mind it being slow paced. It was such an emotional read for me, with some seriously heartbreaking moments, but that's what I love about Scott's books - she makes me feel!

The cover:
Beautiful, and there's just something intriguing about the look on this girl's face.

My rating of this book:
4 stars out of 5
