Book Review: Forever by Maggie Stiefvater

No, no, noooooooo! Why, Maggie Stiefvater, WHY? I need more than a trilogy. I NEED more of Sam, Grace, Cole and Isabel and you tell me that I'll never get it? My dearest wolves of Mercy Falls what a great journey this has been. I love you, always!

Will it last forever, or not?

Moping about
Excuse me for throwing a fit like a four year old but I'm just so sad to be leaving these fictional characters I've come to grow so fond of. Isabel, Cole, Sam and Grace all got under my skin. Thank heavens above that I yet have several more of Maggies books to read(like THE RAVEN BOYS thanks to The Norwegian Book Girl).

Not much of a review
To be honest this is not much of a review, this is just a "I love and loathe(not really!) you, Maggie", post.I have ambivalent feelings about the ending of this series, it was both perfect and annoying at the same time. In all honesty I love Maggie Stiefvater's writing and the trilogy couldn't have ended any other way.

This is how I picture Sam, Ulrik, Beck, Paul and the other wolves in the winter.

Reasons why I fell in love:
1. The language - Maggie you're a very talented writer and you know your way with words like Patrick  Rothfuss and Laini Taylor to name a few other master wordsmiths.
2. The character development - the characters change in a pace that feels so natural.
3. The story - oh so bittersweet.

By way of ending this little "nothing but a fangirling review" I'll leave you with a quote from Sam helping a customer in the bookstore looking for a self-help novel:

…I would have told her that every book ever written was a self-help book and could she be more specific?
How can this not make you love Sam(and Maggie Stiefvater)?

Have you read this trilogy, loved it, hated it or something in between? Leave your two cents in the comments below.

  2. I started this serie but I didn't finish the second book. It wasn't for me. I am sorry for you that the third book is the last.

  4. I LOVE Maggie Stiefvater! I've only read SHIVER, and should definitely read the next ones! Her blog is hilarious, too. Her last post had me laughing out loud. http://maggiestiefvater.com/blog/the-fiendish-hellbird-of-the-house-of-stiefvater/

    Lovely "non-review"! :)

  5. I have read this trilogy and loved it. And though, like you, I wouldn't have minded spending more time with these awesome characters I felt that Maggie did a wonderful job wrapping everything up. I felt content with the ending the way that it was. I'm really glad that you enjoyed this trilogy. :]

    1. I feel she did the right thing too, even if I wanted more. The great authors manages to call it quits with their series when they're on top. Dragging it out would have perhaps effected the quality of the story as a whole.

  6. I love this series, and Maggie Stiefvater. I understand your feeling sad about the ending. But I was good with the way this ended mostly. But I've had series like this as well!

    1. I'm always happy to find more fans of Maggie's writing :) The ending was both good and bad in my opinion, it just had to be that way.

  8. I really like how Forever ended really open ended. A lot of people hated that, but I thought it was cool.

  9. Er utrolig enig med deg. Hadde problemer med å komme inn i det i første boken, men etter tredje var jeg helt "hooked". Skulle ønske vi kunne fått vite litt mer, kanskje en søt liten spin off, eller noen små noveller?

  10. I was totally engulfed by Shiver, basically speed read Linger (found it a bit boring - however read it straight after The Scorpio Races which I LOVED!). Forever was a perfect end to the wolves trilogy. Loved this book and series, magical realism is one of my favourite genres. Can totally recommend.
