Stephenie Meyer writes new series and I didn't even know it!

This is news to me!
According to USA Today Stephenie Meyer is writing on a new series. This time she has chosen a mythological being very different from vampires. Meyer is writing about MERMAIDS. Now what do we think about that? I would love to hear your thoughts on this piece of information.

I quote USA Today(read the entire article here):
Even Stephenie Meyer, who made her fame and fortune writing about vampires, told USA TODAY in March that she's writing about mermaids. (And, yes, she was wearing a silver mermaid necklace when she said it.)

The article on USA Today is a year old and I did not know this. Have I been living under a rock? Did any of you guys know? I feel so behind right now LOL

A big thanks goes to Stacey O'Neale for mentioning this to me on Twitter. Because of Stacey I fervently searched Google and finally found what I was looking for.

Don't forget to check out my WANTED post.
I need a new blog partner over at Escape In A Book, are you the one I'm looking for?

Book review: Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1 by Stephenie Meyer, Young Kim

My summary:
I don't think any one needs a summary of Twilight really. Even if you haven't read the book I'm pretty sure you might know something about the plot of this story.

My thoughts:
I loved Twilight when I first read it so I was eager to find out if the magic was still there in the graphic version of the novel. I finished the book in no time and I'm a bit sad to say that I was disappointed. I couldn't feel any emotions coming of the pages, it just felt kind of flat.

On a positive note I loved the drawings, Young Kim is a very talented illustrator. The drawings alone made me want to read Volume 2.

The cover:
Magical and sparkley(now there's a surprise ;)).

My rating of this book:
3 stars out of 5

Book review: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer

A short synopsis:
Bree Tanner were one of the newborns created by the evil, vampire Victoria. We met Bree for a brief moment in Stephanie Meyers Eclipse(the third installment in the Twilight saga). This book tells the readers Bree's story leading up to the battle and her death in Eclipse.

My thoughts:
To be honest I kind of lost my faith in Meyers vampire stories after pining myself through Breaking Dawn. Breaking Dawn was a huge let down for me so you can say my expectations about The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner was very low. I'm happy to announce that I was very pleasantly surprised with this novella.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a rather dark story with real vampires(even though these vampires also sparkle ;)), blood and body parts flying all over the place. It's not all blood and gore, there is some wonderful friendships being made and even a little bit of love in the air. Bree and the rest of the vampire army knows very little about being vampires. Riley, the leader of Victorias vampire army, controls them by playing on their fears and ancient vampires myths. Bree feels so alone in this group but quite by coincidence she makes a friend in Riley's second in command, Diego. They both feel like there is something weird going on, still Bree is not sure Diego can be trusted. Perhaps he is just a spy, checking to see if some of the vampires are a little to smart for their own good?

When Bree is inside the vampire nest, she always keeps close to a vampire called Freaky Fred. Fred has the ability to make other people nauseous in his presence, so Bree is always left alone in her hiding place behind hos sofa. As time passes it might seem like Fred isn't such a creepy vampire after all. I just loved Fred's character and I wish that Meyer would write a story of Fred's life as well, it would be a great addition(spin-off) to the Twilight world.

Like we all do I knew how things would turn out for Bree, but Meyer kept me hoping that maybe, maybe Bree could be saved.

All in all an excellent read which I finished in no time.

The cover:
Just perfect. An illustration of how fast Bree's time disappears, how short her life is.

My rating of this book:

4.5 out of 5 stars.

Jenny from Wondrous Reads:

In my fangirly conclusion, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a freakin' awesome addition to the Twilight Saga series
Carla from The Crooked Shelf(I just thought this quote was so fun, you will understand it even better after reading the book):

And, to be quite truthful, I can't be objective.  If I said I could, I would be a big liar, just like those damn Volturi *shakes fists* so i'm just going to babble a bit.  Okay?
Sarah from YA Vampire Books:
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is an indispensable read for Twilight lovers!

Book review: The Host by Stephenie Meyer

I have to start this post by saying that I highly recommend this book! No matter how you feel about the Twilight-saga - read The Host! I might add that this book has nothing to do with the Twilight vampires. Okay, I'm going to say this out loud: I personally think this book is better than the Twilight-saga(even though I loved it when I read it).

The Host is a book in the science-fiction genre, the first sci-fi book I have ever read or to be more precise listened to(the audiobook is read by Kate Reading). I didn't think that sci-fi was a book genre I would enjoy but I was badly mistaken in my presumption. If you don't enjoy the genre don't let that stop you, if you do then you're going to miss a great book.

The Host is an adventure of a story as well as a story about important things like learning to accept others for who they are, compassion, love and the feeling of being alone and finding you're place in the universe.

Product description from Amazon:
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

The "souls" in The Host isn't like small green men, no they are tiny beautiful silver creatures. The "souls" are parasites and they are living inside other creatures. They have taken over the earth, the humans didn't desreve a great planet like the eart. Humans only ruined it and were violent and evil towards each other.

When the human, Melanie, is being captured she is in Chicago looking for her cousin, Sharon, who she thinks might still be human. When Melanie understands that the "souls" have found her she throws herself into an elevator shaft hoping to die instead of having her body taken over by a "soul". If her body is taken she fears that her mind will reveal the place where her little brother, Jamie, and her boyfriend, Jared, are hiding. Melanie dosen't die and one of the "souls" heals her body and places a female "soul" named Wanderer inside Melanie's body.

Melanie refuses to give up her own mind and body and through memories and feelings she somehow manges to effect the "soul" a little. Wanderer knows she shouldn't let herself be effected by this and that she ought to swap to a new body, but after awhile she to longs for Melanie's family. Is Jared and Jamie still alive? Can Wanderer the "soul" be trusted?

Melanie and Wanderer starts a search and they find what they are looking for, what they haven't considered is the hate humans nurture for the "souls".

The main character in this book, Wanderer, is hard not to fall in love with. Wanderer is a peace loving "soul" and she shares the body with Melanie a really tough girl who dosen't mind using violence to protect herself. It goes without saying that there's going to be some conflicts inside their head.

I feel that the characters in The Host has got more depth(more multi layered) than the characters in Twilight. It seems to me that Stephenie Meyer has taken her writing up a level with this book. I loved the book and the way the characters in it were described.

My rating of this book:

5 points out of 5 possible.
