You can read my review of the first book in the Mystyx series here.
My summary:
Mystify continues where Mystix(Mystix #1) ended, but now the reader will follow the story of Sasha Carrington. Sasha is quite the outsider, she is the member of one of the richest families in town but she doesn't like it, it has never done her any good. Her parents have never had time for her and she was more or less raised by the family’s maid. All of the sudden her parents takes an interest in what she does, or more correctly they're taking advantage of her to do some PR to the younger crowd in town for a new business Sasha's father is starting.
Sasha and the other members of Mystyx continue to research their own background to figure out what they are and what their purpose is. At the same time they all experience a growth in their supernatural powers. On top of all that there is Antoine Watson, he's a hip hopper and Sasha just might be in love with him, something her parents never will approve of.
My thoughts:
I'm sorry to say that Mystify will be my very first review book, ever, to mark as "did not finish". I gave the story a fair chance and read about a 100 pages but I could just not get into it. I cannot force myself to finish a book, that always gives me trouble afterwards and for a short period of time puts me off reading entirely and we can't let that happen.
I couldn't connect with Sasha and I felt that a lot of the story where being repeated again and again. I read a passage and thought didn't she just say/think the same about two pages ago? And that happened quite often.
The idea of the plot is a good one, strange weather having something to do with the kids supernatural powers and I can honestly say that I would have loved to read more about it. It just took too long to get to the interesting bits and they were to far apart.

This book can be pre-ordered from a number of local retailers and on-line book stores such as Amazon or The Book Depository (I'm not an affiliate of either). The latter store does by the way have free shipping to about 100 countries.
Noooooooooooo, that is so sad :( I still have not had one *coughs* Ok there was one but I braved through it, wish i had not
ReplyDeleteI love reading books, I've actually never read that book. I always finish the books I read, but I must say the first book I had trouble with was Brisignr third book in the series of Eragon. It was not because the action was boring but because of the language. I'm from Norway and loves to read books in English, but right then it was too difficult for me. Read the translation as to my language, as I understood much more. Really nice blog you have, I love reading book blogs! Especially when you get tips on books I have never heard of:)
ReplyDeleteÅhh.. Sad to hear you didn´t like it. Never heard of this book before I saw it on your blogg.. But guess I won´t be cheking this one out. Hates it when nothing is happening.. As you reviewed it to.. So I better not :) Thanks for a honest review...
ReplyDeleteAnd I must honestly say i think the cover looks a little fake to.. xD Not the best cover in the world :P
Oooh no! I hate it when you just can't get into a book and have to put it away without finishing it! Hope you'll read a better book soon!
ReplyDeleteJust curious, did you read the first book in the series? If so, did you like it?
