Book review: The Prince of Mist(Nebula #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

My summary:
During the summer of 1943 Max Carver and his family moved from the city to a small town. Weird things starts to happen from the moment they set foot on the train station in their new hometown. The incidents gets creepier and creepier.. Out on a trip to discover the family's new property Max discovers a little garden that is fenced in and is locked with an iron gate with a six-pointed star as an emblem on top. Inside the garden it's misty and weird statues adds to the eerie feel.

Max wonders what happened to the last family that owned the house, he's told that the previous owners, the Fleischmanns, their only son in a terrible drowning accident right outside the house.

My thoughts:
The Prince of Mist is the infamous Carlos Ruiz  Zafón's debut novel. It's a young adult fantasy/horror story in the spirit of The Shadow of the wind(my review). It's a moving Gothic mystery.

Thirteen year old Max is the main character of this story, he's a smart and caring character. I really liked the way he reflected over his relationship with his big sister Alicia. Although the story was a bit slow at times the good parts more than made up for it. This was a spine chilling and moving story. One last thing: I really don't like clowns!

Listen to the author talk about the book:

The cover:
Great, it gives off the vibes of the same eerie feeling that is in the novel.

My rating of this book:
4 stars out of 5
